We’ve all heard this phrase but it’s only true to a certain extent – it’s absolutely critical that you adopt the correct strategies to make sure that your business gets off the ground and survives. The world is a very fast moving place and what most people are trying to do is get one step ahead in order to succeed and wanting to discover new strategies.
We’ve selected a couple of short film clips below from bygone times which are worth viewing a couple of times – think about what these people are saying and you’ll see that tried and tested strategies are what you need! Applying them to modern times isn’t too hard…
The first features a chap called Elmer Wheeler. As well as coining the phrase "Sell the sizzle..." he also conducted enormous studies to identify successful sales strategies in the 1930’s. His principles for communication are as relevant now they were then.
The second features David Ogilvy, one of the god-fathers of modern day marketing. He apparently used to warn all his new clients that now they had instructed his company to do their marketing they had better go and make sure their product was upto scratch saying “you need to be damned good before you can risk being famous!” What he espouses about direct marketing, is truer now than then because our ability to test and measure everything we do is greater.
